Outdoor Oasis: Best Tiles for Patios, Pools, and Outdoor Kitchens

Outdoor Oasis: Best Tiles for Patios, Pools, and Outdoor Kitchens

Ever seen a determined squirrel attempt an Olympic-worthy slide across a patio, only to end in an awkward tumble? While squirrels bounce back easily, most of us prefer our outdoor spaces free from such slippery drama. Selecting durable, weather-resistant tiles for your patios, pools, and outdoor kitchens helps you avoid these embarrassing moments and ensures your outdoor oasis stays beautiful year-round. Southeastern Tile Connection (SETI LECONNECTION), with over 50 years in the industry, knows a thing or two about making outdoor spaces safe, stylish, and slip-free.

Why Your Outdoor Tile Choice Matters

Outdoor tiles face it all, heavy rainstorms, blazing sun, spills from barbecues, and temperature extremes. Selecting the right tile involves more than aesthetics:

  • Safety First: Slip-resistant surfaces are crucial around pools and wet areas.
  • Durability: Tiles should withstand harsh weather without cracking or fading.
  • Maintenance Ease: Outdoor kitchen spills are inevitable; choose tiles resistant to stains and easy to clean.

With decades of experience guiding homeowners, builders, designers, and dealers, Southeastern Tile Connection ensures your choice stands up beautifully to nature’s challenges.

Top Tile Picks for Stunning Outdoor Areas

Porcelain Tiles

Porcelain is a popular choice thanks to its exceptional performance:

  • Water-Resistant: Virtually impermeable, ideal for pools and wet patios.
  • Durability: Resistant to cracking, fading, and wear.
  • Style Versatility: Endless options, including natural stone or wood aesthetics.

Explore Southeastern Tile Connection’s extensive porcelain tile collection to find the perfect match for your design.

Natural Stone Tiles

For an earthy, authentic look, natural stone offers undeniable charm:

  • Unique Beauty: No two tiles are identical, creating an elegant, natural appeal.
  • Slip-Resistance: Textured surfaces make them safer for wet areas.
  • Longevity: With proper sealing and care, natural stone tiles remain beautiful for years.

Keep in mind, some natural stones require sealing. Southeastern Tile Connection’s knowledgeable staff can help you select the best stone for your climate and lifestyle.

Ceramic Tiles

Ideal for covered outdoor spaces, ceramic tiles provide:

  • Easy Maintenance: Quickly cleaned, making them excellent for busy outdoor kitchens.
  • Affordable Pricing: A budget-friendly alternative to porcelain and stone.
  • Varied Designs: Available in numerous colors and patterns to fit any style.

For uncovered or heavy-use areas, consider porcelain or stone for enhanced durability.

Key Factors for Choosing Outdoor Tiles

Slip-Resistance

Safety around pools and patios is critical. Opt for textured or matte finishes designed for outdoor use. Consult Southeastern Tile Connection for tiles meeting specific safety requirements.

Climate and Weather

In areas with significant temperature swings, freeze-thaw stable tiles like porcelain and certain natural stones are recommended. Southeastern Tile Connection experts can advise you based on regional considerations.

Maintenance Needs

  • Natural Stone: Typically requires periodic sealing.
  • Porcelain and Ceramic: Generally easier to maintain.
  • Grout Considerations: Use grout sealers for added protection. Learn more about grout options from Southeastern Tile Connection’s informative FAQs.

Leland Decker

Business Development

An alumnus of NCSU, with a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture, I bring more than 30 years of experience in the design industry. My career began at a large commercial firm in Manhattan, and I quickly realized my passion was in residential design. In 2000 I relocated to Washington, DC and started designing in the high-end/luxury market. A few years later I made the move into freelancing full scale design and project management. During this time, I had the pleasure of working on the renovation and restoration of the Hollerith House, built in 1911, in Georgetown.

In 2017, I returned to North Carolina for a lifestyle change, and in February 2023, I joined Southeastern Tile Connection Inc. during its expansion into the western NC market. My role has been focused on developing relationships and establishing our presence within the communities of western NC.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to nurture lasting relationships with industry professionals, bridging the gap between their needs and success. Community involvement is a priority, and I am committed to contributing to the growth and vibrancy of Southeastern Tile Connection Inc. as we navigate the evolving landscape of design.

Morgan

Design Consultant

With an eye for color and a passion for creativity, Morgan brings an element of unique artistry as a design consultant. An award-winning ceramic artist, Morgan has had her work displayed across the nation through exhibitions, galleries, and residencies.

Morgan earned a degree in ceramics and a double minor in art history and business from Anderson University in South Carolina. Her training enables her to reference styles across cultures and eras, creating a cohesive aesthetic. Morgan’s love of history and culture, enhanced by her travels across the USA and Europe, allow her to add depth to design, referencing bygone eras while embracing the contemporary.
